The Virgil is now available!

We know it’s a little early yet to start thinking about a new winter wool coat, but the Virgil will be ready to ship just in time for the coldest months of the year [at least in the Northern Hemisphere].

This run of the Virgil is a Limited Edition!

The Virgil is made with a 100% vintage wool outer body, which means each jacket produced will have unique fabric and be one of a kind. Some of the material is remnant 1940s US Naval coat wool and comes in rolls that are thick, luxurious, and water-repellent. Other rolls are merino blend for exquisite warmth and durability. All wool is of comparable quality and has been hand-picked my the Volante team. The Virgil is lined with matte-backed satin for the pockets, sleeve linings and pocket welts.

Color schemes:

  • Total Eclipse: black wool body with black metal buttons and black stitching
  • Fallen Angel: navy wool body with brass buttons and blue stitching

We will have these two samples at our booth [C504] at Boston Comic Con; stop by and see it in person!

The Demon Killer: Eclipse color scheme.

We felt this color scheme merited vampire teeth. Alternatively it works really well for a Sword Art Online redesign/cosplay if that’s more your speed.

Somehow it is both more imposing and more subdued [perhaps depending on your posture] than many of our other designs/colorways.

The Demon Killer is now available for immediate shipment right here:

The Kestrel: Run 4 is now available!

We’ve restocked a couple of popular colors from previous runs as well as added a few new ones. This way if we start to run short by the end of con season, there will still be some available for pre-order.

  • Obsidian – Black with grey accents
  • Florentine Scarlet  - Red with black accents
  • Black Garnet  - Black with red accents
  • Nightfall** – Purple with black accents
  • Militia Brown – Brown with black accents

You can pre-order the Run 4 Kestrel right

**The Nightfall color scheme is an approximation, and the Purple shown is a bit brighter than the final version will be. Nightfall is the inverse of the Saint color scheme used on The Eagle and Falcon jackets.

The Eagle: Run 4 is now available!

It’s been about 6 months since our last Eagle run, and since then we’ve made a few minor adjustments to the sizing and fit of the design. Most notably the garment now has slightly more room all around, which allows for another layer underneath, while also making the jacket have a slightly more comfortable fit. For reference it is about half a size larger than previous runs, not large enough to be noticeable to anyone but the wearer. We are also making the hood slightly deeper, in this run; more like the Harrier hood depth.

Other than that the major purpose of this run is to get a couple new colors in, and restock some favorites. Colors available in Run 4 are:

  • Disciple Blue - Navy with black accents, black zippers and buttons, and black thread
  • Eclipse - Black with silver zippers and buttons, and grey thread
  • Red Steel - Red with gunmetal accents, brass zippers and buttons, and red thread
  • Gilded Onyx 2.0 - Black with navy accents, brass zippers and buttons, and gold thread
  • Black Garnet 2.0 - Black with red accents, black zippers and buttons, and red thread
  • Saint - Black with purple accents, silver zippers and buttons, and grey thread

The Washington is now available for preorder!

Inspired by the United States’ first commander-in-chief, the Washington hopes to inspire great purpose in its wearer. Fittingly, it is first in the Ancestors collection, soon to be joined by other figures from the past. This stately jacket can be worn as a single layer or as an outer shell in the cooler months, perfect for leading a long campaign or just a short mission to the store. Take command of your life in the Washington.

Color schemes shown:

Night’s Watch - black body with navy accents, black thread, and black flat metal buttons

- Freemason - navy body with rawhide accents, charcoal thread, and black flat metal buttons

If you like the Washington, please share it around!

The Washington.

I feel like we’ve been offhandedly mentioning the Washington for months without ever having posted images of it. This design was first prototyped mere days after I completed the first Kenway prototype. They were originally intended to be released together, but the Kenway’s explosive popularity made it impossible, and so it fell by the wayside.

Daniel has been wearing it ever since, being the soul owner of a Washington jacket, Last year at NYCC we received countless inquiries about it, and we knew that it was time to bring it to full fruition.

And with that, we present to you the Washington in two of the four color schemes it will be available in it’s first run. It will be available for preorder starting tomorrow afternoon (July 17).

Color schemes shown are:

- Commander in Chief: Navy with Light Gold accents and Gold thread.

- Minuteman: Rawhide with Gunmetal accents and Gold thread.

More updates to come tomorrow!

Ninja Mask

Preview: The Ninja in Smokescreen color scheme.

Introducing Volante Design’s Unifit cut. Unlike our other garments to date, the Ninja will be made in a single cut that is designed based on our existing size charts that will fit people of all genders.

We call this cut Unifit as opposed to “unisex” because the term unisex as it is currently defined is a shape that is designed to be suitable for both sexes, and suitable just doesn’t cut it for us.

The Ninja will be available in 10 sizes that will cover the measurements of our XS women’s to our 3XL men’s sizes, with some overlap in the middle. This is made possible by the side panels of the Ninja being entirely a stretch cotton. In the photos above Willow is wearing a ninja of the same cut as Enzo, albeit two unifit sizes smaller.

We are aiming to launch pre-orders for the Ninja tomorrow, July 2nd, with two additional color schemes.

Until then, stay awesome.

Teaser #2: The Ninja in Black Garnet and Eclipse color schemes.

We showed off the first images of the Eclipse color scheme earlier this week, and now we have more, as well as the second color scheme the Ninja will be available in in it’s first run.

A few questions were raised when we posted the first images, and we’d like to answer them as best as possible:

- The fabric blend will not be so much of a blend as 100% cotton. The prototypes are made from a variety of fabrics, and not the fabric they’ll be produced with [since that will be a custom knit]

- All of the fabric will be pre-washed and shrunk, which means that like the Jackdaw, the Ninja will be completely machine washable.

- And on sizing: the Ninja will be available for people of all genders, in our usual sizing.

On Monday we’ll have the next one ready to show you, look forward to it; it’s a completely new color scheme that we think you’ll really love.

That’s it for today, have a lovely weekend, and enjoy the premier of Korra: Book 3!

Volante Design Crew

PS: The Black Garnet shown has grey thread, but the final version will have red thread, as per the standard Black Garnet color scheme.

The Osprey with Pinion.

Took some photos of this pairing last weekend, thought you all might like to see how the Pinion works with a jacket it wasn’t built specifically for. Enjoy!

Gargoyle Printed Tee

This shirt design is of a famous gargoyle on a certain Parisian church. Do you recognize him?
We will continue doing t-shirt prints as they come in. The turn around is about 3 days to get your order sent out. The shipping on t-shirts is still free for US orders!

The Harrier: Trickster color scheme

This has been a long time coming, but we are really excited to finally be able to post photos of this color scheme for the Harrier. This one is made from the same all-cotton ripstop material as the Obsidian color scheme, and has emerald green internal accents and gold thread.

The Harrier: Orleans Bleu color scheme.

Here’s the first view of the women’s cut for the Harrier and the Pinion. This color scheme is somewhat less flashy than the others, but I think it works really well.

We’ve also never shown off the asymmetrical cuff design before, despite it having been there all along. It allows for a nice long sleeve, without getting in the way.

The Harrier: Masyaf Steel color scheme.

I started playing around with ways of buttoning this jacket closed and was surprised by the sheer number of options 10 buttons with 2 internal buttons can offer [despite how obvious it sounds when you count out the buttons]. I also realized that the lapels can be buttoned down if worn as shown in the second photo.

We’re currently finishing up samples of the Women’s cut, look forward to pictures coming soon.

The Harrier: Masyaf Steel [with Havana Pinion] color scheme

Call this a sneak peak, we’ve got lots more pictures of this color schemes in all of it’s closure variations coming tomorrow, but we wanted to post a few before the day’s end.

The harrier is available for pre-order. It sports a swallow-tail cut away, ideal for looking elegant on horseback or climbing into a baroque carriage. We think it looks pretty cool on the subway or climbing into your sedan as well.
