The Redcoat.

Here’s the womens version of the Redcoat design I posted yesterday. The two designs are based on the same principles, except that this one has a more feminine shape. The mens version will not have the pleats, but will have similar lines, albeit more masculine.

The Redcoat.

Something I got the inspiration for months ago, and finally got overwhelmed with the need to draw it this week. I don’t know if we’ll ever make it, but I just had to draw it.

I’m still working on the womens version, which unlike most of the rest of my designs has a significantly different cut, although it is based on the same concepts.

If I had my way, both coats would be wool, or something similarly soft and wrinkle free, to help promote the clean line feeling of the design.

All images and designs are copyright Volante Design 2013.

PS: This has nothing to do with that other thing I have been hinting at for the last few days. I should have more news on that fron by the end of the week.

White Journey coats.

I meant to post these yesterday, but other things came up and I didn’t get around to it. Honestly, while white would look excellent, I can’t imagine a long white coat to remain white for more than about ten minutes. Opting for a light gray wold probably look just as good and be that much easier to keep clean.

I also thought that it would look great in taupe or sand/tan.

Short Journey.
As mentioned in the other post, this shows some of the other options that will be available. This one has is shorter, and therefore requires less materials and labor, so it will have a lower price tag. The other drawing also features rough edges to some of the seams and hems, where this one has clean edges. The rough edges will be done well so that they will not degrade more than style would require, so that will be a matter of preference. I like the idea of rough edges, where my girlfriend would prefer clean ones.
As for the hood: this drawing shows a gold trim around the opening. I don’t know which style I like better, so this may or may not be included in the final design. Also, something I found hard to make clear in a drawing was the fact that the front part of the mask will be a shear black fabric, that offers some visibility, and will be removable via a zipper in the inside edge of the hood. The zipper will be hidden from sight when the mask is removed, and there will be a flap protecting the wearers face from feeling the zipper. I imagine it will commonly be worn without the mask, but I just had to include it.

Edit: Will also be available in White.

Edit edit: as well as any other color, just like almost everything else I make.

Long Journey.
So! I’ve just returned from a much needed vacation, which gave me the opportunity to finally draw something for the sake of inspiration rather than the usual ~work/play I am burdened/blessed with.
Anyway, sitting at the beach, I look down at the sand, and then back to my sketchbook, and my pencil hits the paper. For those who don’t know, Journey is a fantastic indie game available on PSN, with an excellent sense of artistic style, and vision that creates a nearly visceral experience of loneliness mixed with a burning desire to explore the vast reaches of the desert.
So, I had this idea, which opened itself to endless customization. I wanted to include the personalized glyph idea, and the extending scarf, so I cut the scarf into sections, which could be tied on with lacing. I think it will be available with a base length, and the option to add sections to your order. I would like to be able to print glyphs on each section, so I’m considering trying to work something out with a local screenprinting shop.
There’s one more sketch coming up, so I’ll explain more about the customization there.
As a side note, I’m having some difficulty coming up with a good name for the coat. My favorite so far is the ‘Journeyman’, but it will be available for men and women, so I don’t think that works. Another option would be the Wanderer (which made me think of a Shadow of the Colossus/Journey crossover, and I smiled). What do you think?

Dr. Doom
Finally another supervillain to accompany Darkseid and Ganondorf.
I imagine this as a nice wool pea coat with a removable zipper panel that the hood is attached to. Back and side sketches to follow. Happy New Year!

This one catches me up on coloring previous sketches. Next one’s new!
